Maldives Visa Guide 2026: Process & Rules
The Maldives Tourist Visa: A Welcome Gift on Arrival
Who is Eligible for the Maldives Visa on Arrival?
Essential Requirements for Entry and Visa on Arrival
Here is a detailed checklist of what you need to have in hand when you arrive:
A Valid Passport: Your passport or travel document should be valid for at least one month after you plan to leave the Maldives. This rule is more flexible than the six-month requirement in many other countries. Make sure your passport is machine-readable, as non-machine-readable passports can cause problems.
Proof of Onward or Return Travel: You need a confirmed ticket showing when you will leave the Maldives. This helps show that you do not plan to stay longer than allowed.
Proof of Accommodation: You should have confirmation of your hotel or resort booking for your whole stay. If you are staying with friends, family, or on a sponsored trip, you will need to show you have enough money for your visit.
Sufficient Funds: If you do not have a hotel booked in advance, you need to show you have enough money for your trip. Usually, this means at least $100 plus $50 for each day you stay. A recent bank or credit card statement is usually enough. Most tourists with pre-paid resorts are not asked for this, but it is still good to have.

Important Regulations and Pro-Tips for Travelers
Strict Ban on Alcohol and Prohibited Items: The Maldives is a conservative Muslim country. Tourists are not allowed to bring in alcohol, pork or pork products, religious materials for sharing, or any pornographic items. Airport staff will scan your luggage and take away any alcohol they find. You can still buy and enjoy alcohol at private island resorts.
Fill Out the IMUGA Form on Time: You must complete the online Traveler Declaration within 96 hours before both your arrival and departure. It helps to set a reminder so you don’t forget.
Check Passport Validity: The official rule is that your passport must be valid for at least 1 month, but most airlines recommend at least 6 months remaining before it expires. This is a safer option for international travel.
Keep Documents Organized: Have digital and printed copies of your return ticket, hotel confirmation, and IMUGA QR code ready for inspection.
Plan Transfers in Advance: Most resorts are on private islands accessible only by speedboat or seaplane. These transfers are arranged by your resort and must be booked in advance.
